How to Determine the Right Crate Size for a Dog or a Cat?

Ideal crate dimensions for dog transport

Legend:

A = Length of the animal from the nose to the base of the tail.
B = Height from the ground to the top of the leg (elbow joint). The crate length must be at least equal to A + 1/2 B (1/2 B = half the leg height).
C = Width of the animal’s back. The crate width must be at least equal to C × 2.
D = Height of the animal in a natural standing position, up to the top of the ears or head. Equal to the crate height.

Minimum crate dimensions:

Length = A + B/2 = Length of the animal + half the height of the legs.
Width = C × 2 = Twice the width of the animal’s back.
Height = D = Height of the animal up to the top of the head.
